This pilot light is for the Wurlitzer 120. We also have pilot lights and lenses for other models of Wurlitzer: 140/720 pilot light; 112/120/140 jewel light

You need this product if:

  • The pilot light on your Wurlitzer 120 does not light up when the keyboard is on

  • You own a Wurlitzer 120 (seriously, this is a very cool and unique light! Supplies are limited and you’ll want one if your original light ever stops working)

The pilot light isn’t necessary for good tone (…or is it?!?!) but it is important for alerting you that the keyboard is switched on. Like any electronic device, tube amplifiers should not be left on and unattended for long periods of time. Unfortunately, it’s easy to forget to turn the amp off when the pilot light isn’t working—so it’s important to replace a malfunctioning light asap.

Installation Instructions

The bulb currently installed in your 120 should have one lead connected to pin 6 of the wiring harness, and one lead connected to a 220k resistor which is connected to a ground within the cheek-block. For good measure, we include a 220k resistor to replace the old resistor within the cheek-block.

The Wurlitzer 120 pilot light has an unusual place within the circuit. In most tube amplifiers, the pilot light is a 120v neon light connected to the power transformer primary (where the wall voltage comes in) or an LED connected to the 6.3v tube heater circuit. However, the Wurlitzer 120 neon glow lamp is connected to a 250v DC supply in the middle of the audio circuit power supply. If your pilot light doesn’t turn on, your tubes are glowing, and your keyboard is giving you no volume, there’s probably something interrupting your amplifier’s power supply voltage. In that case, the no-sound problem should be solved before replacing the pilot light (which may still be functional after all).
