Wurlitzer 200A and 206A Amplifier Rebuild Kit

from $146.00
Sold Out

Our 200A repair kit comes in two options: a complete selection of capacitors and resistors, and an add-on option for the Aux & Vibrato components. The add on for Vibrato & Aux (vib/aux) components also happen to be the components necessary to enable aux and vibrato in a 206A.

This kit contains hand-selected replacements for components that commonly fail in Wurlitzer 200a electronic piano amplifiers. Installing the parts in this kit can help you achieve a more reliable, cleaner-sounding Wurlitzer. Please note that these components are for the Wurlitzer 200a only and cannot be installed in Wurlitzer 200 amplifiers. If you have a Wurlitzer 200, check out our 200 rebuild kit here.

Over time, components in vintage amps will degrade, resulting in noise and poor performance. This kit contains hand-selected replacements for all of the components that commonly fail in Wurlitzer 200a amplifiers. Installing the parts in this kit can help you achieve a more reliable, cleaner-sounding Wurlitzer.

Please note that the Wurlitzer 200a and 200 are very different. If you have a Wurlitzer 200, you must purchase this kit here.

Choosing which components to replace and which components to keep depends on a number of factors, including the condition of the amplifier as well as the personal preference of its user. For this reason, we offer an all encompassing kit with which you can replace as many or as few components as your specific amp requires.

Features of this kit include:

  • High-quality components hand-picked for suitability in a vintage solid state circuit

  • Components individually bagged and labeled

  • Can be installed in all Wurlitzer 200a amplifiers

Warning: Safe and effective installation of the components in this kit requires some electronics experience. Incorrect installation of these components can result in damage to your amplifier or injury to yourself. If you are unsure how to install these components yourself, you can mail in your amp or drop it off at our Tuckahoe, NY location and we will install the components for you.

ABOUT THE CAP & RESISTOR KIT

The Cap & Resistor kit includes all of the electrolytic capacitors, all power resistors, and all remaining caps and resistors. This all encompassing kit will improve the reliability and performance of your Wurlitzer and give you all the parts you need to selectively repair any portion of the circuit. It includes:

  • All filter capacitors

  • All electrolytic coupling capacitors

  • All high-wattage resistors, including output transistor bias resistors

  • Polypropylene input coupling capacitor

  • All resistors

Why replace these components?

  • Electrolytic capacitors deteriorate over time, which can cause hum, poor frequency response, or otherwise reduced performance. Note that although new electrolytics can improve the noise floor of your amplifier, they are not a magic bullet. There are many factors that can introduce hum into a vintage circuit. However, even if the electrolytics are not the primary cause of your Wurlitzer’s hum, it is always worthwhile to replace them for the overall health and longevity of your amplifier.

  • High-wattage resistors perform under conditions of high heat and stress that, over time, can cause their values to drift. In the Wurlitzer 200, high-wattage resistors set the bias of the output transistors and are very important to the amplifier’s sound quality. Deteriorated resistors can also introduce noise into circuits. We recommend replacing these resistors at the same time as the electrolytic capacitors.

  • The coupling capacitor and input resistors are intended for your amplifier’s input circuit. Although components at an amplifier’s input are no more likely to deteriorate than components elsewhere in the circuit, the input is very sensitive. Noise and poor frequency characteristics at the input will be amplifier by the rest of the circuit. For that reason, we prefer to replace input components in many amplifiers that we repair. We have included them in the Basic kit so that you will have that option as well.

  • All capacitors. This option includes new polypropylene replacements for all remaining capacitors. These capacitors are low-noise and excellent for audio applications. The remaining capacitors in the Wurlitzer 200a perform various roles, and deteriorated capacitors in this circuit can cause a range of problems. By having all of the capacitors on hand, you will be able to replace as many or as few as your particular Wurlitzer requires.

  • All resistors. This option includes a complete set of resistors for the Wurlitzer 200a amplifier. The small-wattage resistors in this kit are high-quality, low-noise metal film resistors. If your Wurlitzer happens to have one or more noisy or damaged preamp resistors, this kit will have you covered.

ABOUT THE VIBRATO & AUX ADD-ON KIT

The Vibrato & Aux add-on kit includes all of the remaining components that are critical to these portions of the circuit. This components can be installed in your 206A amp too, or add vibrato and an aux out to your Wurlitzer. The components include:

  • The LDR

  • A trimpot

  • Transistors 3, 4, 15 & 16

  • A Vibrato Potentiometer

  • A length of hook-up wire to be used as a jumper
